Humane Trapping
We began humanely trapping after witnessing an overwhelming need in Maricopa County. Every day, thousands of dogs across the country become lost or displaced, many through no fault of their own. In our community alone, the numbers are staggering. We receive between 20 to 50 pleas daily from good Samaritans desperately seeking help for animals in distress. Many of these dogs are fearful, undersocialized, and in survival mode. This not only makes them extremely difficult to catch but also puts them at high risk of injury, death, or euthanasia.
Humane trapping is often their only chance at safety. Using proven, compassionate methods, we carefully and respectfully bring these dogs to safety, minimizing stress and avoiding further trauma. Once in our care, they’re given the time, space, and support they need to decompress and begin healing.

Our focus is on building trust and helping them recover both physically and emotionally. Most of the animals we take in have unique behavioral or medical needs. We call them our “trap dogs”—not to define them by their past, but to honor the extraordinary journey they’ve taken to find safety.
At Sky Sanctuary, we are devoted not just to the act of trapping, but to the long-term well-being of every animal we rescue. We focus on quality over quantity, ensuring each animal is placed thoughtfully and responsibly. These forgotten dogs matter deeply to us, and we will always do what is in their best interest.
