Meet Tortoise

Tortoise came to us from one of the most harrowing rescue missions we’ve ever faced—a makeshift encampment deep in the desert, where more than 150 animals were struggling to survive in 110-degree heat.

A Desperate Plea for Help

A family from the transient community reached out, begging for help to save their animals. We weren’t in a position to act—but we knew we had to. The urgency was undeniable: fragile seniors baking in the sun, scared eyes, and dogs leaping into our van to escape.

The Day Everything Changed

Alongside MASH officers, we pulled 55 animals from the desert that day. Many were moments from collapse. Tortoise was one of them. A senior with a soft spirit, he had endured far too much for far too long.

Safe. Loved. Home.

Today, Tortoise lives in a deeply committed sanctuary foster home where he is safe, seen, and surrounded by love. His past no longer defines him. The suffering is over. What remains is peace.

Why We Keep Saying Yes

Tortoise reminds us why we do this work—why we say yes even when it feels impossible. Because when we choose compassion, dogs like Tortoise get the second chance they never thought would come.
